This beautiful Georgian List B building is situated in its own private grounds with fabulous views out over the river Forth. Naturally the owners of this home wished to make the most of this glorious outlook by positioning their conservatory on the west elevation looking out to sea.

Our clients had very definite ideas of what they wanted. Since the conservatory extends across the whole elevation of their existing property, the lounge, dining room and hall windows were opened up to form entrances. Because the hall window was lower than the other two, we built an internal timber staircase leading up into the conservatory. The double gable design was created to fit in with the rather grand style of the property. Centring the gables on the lounge and dining room doors preserved architectural symmetry. This also had the effect of making the conservatory a feature from within these rooms drawing the eye outwards. Glass from floor to ceiling in the new extension enhances the feeling of being in the great outdoors but protected from the elements.

It was obviously important to add interest to the internal space so we recessed the link section between the two gables, creating two different areas now used as an informal dining room and comfortable sitting area. The recessed doors are sheltered from the winds whilst the external flagstone steps and wrought iron handrails are centred on the main access into the garden reinforcing the formality of this classic Georgian arrangement.

Traditional stone, external white frames, wrought iron finials and an Oxford bead detail to the windows subtly blend the conservatory into its new surroundings. Inside natural timber and the existing stone walls combine with cream décor and furnishings to create a comfortable, warm, stylish environment.
