The brief

To relocate their kitchen into a new extension which can incorporate a living/dining area that opens out onto the patio and garden beyond. Our clients wanted to be able to enjoy the outdoors by opening the front of the extension up, no matter what the weather was like. They were keen for their extension to have lots of light but also wanted a part solid roof to continue the external theme of their existing home.

The outcome

Within just 12 weeks we had created a stunning addition to our clients’ home. In order to successfully relocate the kitchen, we had to knock down an existing structure and build a brand-new extension in the same location. As is common in period style properties, the windows are small and can leave rooms feeling dark and enclosed. So, we designed a space that creates a natural flow of light throughout the extension and a-joining rooms, by installing large bi-fold doors to the front, patio doors to the side, incorporating a combination roof, and installing internal glass (French style) doors. For enjoyment with the doors open, even in winter, we designed and installed a large glass canopy to act as an overhang above the bi-fold doors, that would still allow light to stream in, but protect against the elements. With an emphasis placed on technology, we tailored our design to accommodate TV’s, lighting and sound systems, as well as working seamlessly with the kitchen company to ensure a smooth installation and finish. This extension has transformed how our clients’ live and while a superb lifestyle choice, this has undoubtedly added significant value to their home.
