The brief

In this tranquil setting our brief was to build exactly what our client, a practicing architect, had planned for his house.

As this was a listed building, we had to mirror the architectural style of the property while producing a bespoke sun lounge that met our clients needs. Our client wanted a striking design that not only added space, light and character to his home but one that blended into the beautiful surroundings.

The outcome

Entered from the dining room of the main house, this unique sun lounge makes the most of its peaceful location in lovely mature gardens. A particularly dramatic feature is the upward slanting slate roof which incorporates glazed sections to allow the light to flood into this stunning space. More light enters via the glazed front elevation and gable end. Unusual astragal detailing breaks up the large areas of glass without detracting from the airy and bright atmosphere.

Adding an unconventional touch was the choice of timber lining with a National Trust Green finish on the outside wall, rather than natural stone to tie in with the existing windows. The end result far exceeded all of our expectations. This bespoke design combines many innovative features and clever ideas to create a truly spectacular sun lounge.
