As summer approaches, many of us want to head out into the garden to enjoy more light, warm sunshine, leafy trees, flowers, wildlife, BBQs and simply experience the outdoors after what often feels like a long dark winter.  But as we all know, the Scottish climate can be unpredictable, making it difficult to plan spending time outdoors, even in the summer months.

With this in mind, more and more clients are coming to us for a bespoke solution to extending their living outdoors, with a space that they can use and enjoy, all year round.

One of our Edinburgh clients lived in a basement flat in the New Town for nearly 10 years where she loved spending time in her beautiful garden. Due to the layout and positioning of the property, however, light was limited when indoors and the changeable weather meant it wasn’t always possible to relax and entertain in the garden. Sceptical about getting planning permission, our client didn’t look into the possibility of building a garden room for years, and then decided to contact us for advice. Within three months, we had secured planning permission, designed and built a stunning cedar garden room, fully insulated with fixed glass panels, hardwood framed glass doors, mains electric, internal and external lighting, a woodburing stove and positioned to maximise light and privacy, all year round.

This particular garden room was covered as a feature in the Scotland on Sunday as ‘An Oasis in the City'. Our client told us she came to practically live in her garden room, as the light and immediate connection to the garden was transformational and meant she could read, entertain, eat, rest and simply sit and enjoy the view, at any time of year.
