In a quiet elevated position at the heart of one of Perthshire’s most desirable towns sits a thriving Country Retreat that encompasses the very best of Scottish hospitality. Struan and Louise Lothian bought Knockendarroch Hotel just eight years ago where they have successfully transformed this Pitlochry business into an Award-Winning Contemporary Scottish Hotel.

Like many businesses, but particularly those within the hospitality sector, the Pandemic meant two years of constant change, uncertainty and disruption that required robust ingenuity, professionalism and resilience from our Hoteliers, Restaurateurs and their Teams.

Pitlochry’s Knockendarroch Hotel was no exception. Subject to all the necessary social distancing guidelines and compliance, the already explored possibility of adding a glass and timber restaurant extension was no longer on hold as Struan and Louise recognised that in order to re-open their business safely, meeting all required social distancing measures, they needed more space and they needed it quickly.

Having worked with Mozolowski & Murray on a similar extension project eight years previously, Struan’s complete confidence in not just the quality of Mozolowski & Murrays product, but in their ability to deliver the project within the scheduled 30-day timescale, was the driving force behind his decision to go ahead with the extension at such a pivotal time for the business.

Mozolowski & Murray looked at the existing style of property, quickly understanding Struan’s overall business objectives with guest experience in mind and presented a classic Orangery design that would seamlessly blend with the traditional exterior, yet offer guests a light and contemporary culinary atmosphere within.

Commenting on his decision to expediate the project, Proprietor Struan Lothian said:

“In my view there is only one company that’s suited to delivering this kind of commercial project and that’s Mozolowski & Murray. I don’t know of any other company in Scotland that can deliver this level of quality in just a few weeks. Our last extension project was scheduled and delivered within 30 days, as was this one, and the quality remains exceptional.

“From lifting the phone to give the project the green light to signing off onsite, we were up and running in just four weeks. This allowed us to operate without restricting our capacity through the social distancing months. As social distancing requirements subsided, we were then in a position to capitalise on this new space by adding a further four bedrooms to the hotel. Between the extra rooms and newly increased restaurant capacity, we have been able to substantially increase sales.”

Struan and Louise’s decision to invest in additional guest accommodation as well as contracting Mozolowski & Murray to design, manufacture and install what is now a stunning Orangery Restaurant Extension, meant they saw a return on their investment within the first year.

Enjoying a high occupancy rate in November, a typically quiet month in the hospitality calendar, Struan and Louise are confident they are heading into a prosperous festive period where their culinary reputation will continue to attract visitors who seek the relaxed and friendly welcome from their dedicated staff, the warm glow of their open fire, panoramic views of the wintery Perthshire hills, all while enjoying some of Scotland’s finest local produce, prepared and presented by their award-winning Chef.
