A grand restoration with stunning results

Carlowrie Castle is steeped in history as it sits within 35 acres of stunning countryside, only 10 minutes from Scotland’s Capital city. Only ever owned by two families, the current owner, Andrew Marshall, embarked on a journey of restoration and transformation, designed to create a luxury hotel, wedding and events experience that would turn his 18th Century home into a must visit destination and highly successful hospitality business in the heart of Scotland.

Andrew contacted us back in 2011 with what was a specialised restoration project based on the original orangery that was in place before the renovations began. With capacity to accommodate either very intimate weddings in the Drawing Room, Library Bar or Dining Room or indeed larger weddings in an external marquee, Andrew recognised a demand for something in between.  The original orangery wasn’t fit for purpose but the elegance of its design, historical context and clear business opportunity inspired Andrew to restore the structure like for like. Keen to retain the elegance and grandeur of the orangery, we worked in partnership with architects and contractors to design and construct what has become an iconic wedding and events venue at Carlowrie Castle.

The orangery seats up to 120 guests and is located towards the side of the castle, with panoramic views that extend over the manicured gardens and woodland walks. With the average wedding comprising between 75 to 120 guests, it has opened the business up to average sized wedding parties and achieved a quick and healthy return on its investment.

Mozolowski & Murray breathes new life into luxury wedding venue

Opened in May 2015, the Marshall family lovingly renovated Carlowrie Castle to cleverly blend contemporary modern luxury hospitality, with a traditional Scottish setting, creating what many industry publications describe as ‘a true hidden gem’ just minutes from the City of Edinburgh. With the option to host a range of weddings and events such as charity fundraisers, dinners and celebrations, this has been a wise investment, both in terms of business growth and the overall value of the property.

It was essential that the restoration was given to leading glass and timber structure specialists, who would be able to strike the right balance between, intelligent design, quality materials, workmanship and installation, as well as a clear understanding and insight into the architectural context of the build. The team grasped this immediately and the results are truly stunning.

Mozolowski & Murray Director, Virginia Murray said:

“This was a particularly rewarding project with truly impressive results. We worked seamlessly with our client’s architect and base contractors with our specialised team producing the highest standards of workmanship, to ensure the best possible outcome for Andrew, his clients and his business.

“It is always a delight to see our work being enjoyed post completion, but it is fantastic to know that Andrew’s investment has already paid for itself.

“We know what is takes to grow a successful business which is why we get so much satisfaction out of clients choosing us to help grow their business, as well as significantly increasing the value of their property.

“We look forward to building our business profile by helping more clients achieve their goals and wish Andrew and his team continued success for decades to come”
